FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions regarding the artist, original works, copyright and reproductions.
What paper and printing processes are used for reproductions?
Prints are fulfilled by Prodigi:
- Enhanced Matte Art (EMA), 200 gsm — Giclée fine-art paper printed with pigmented archival inks. Industry standard museum-quality reproduction: smoother gradients, depth of colour and light-fastness under controlled display conditions.
- Professional Lustre C-Type (PHO-PRO), 240 gsm — printed using traditional silver-halide photographic process. Superior image quality and distinctive photographic look that digital papers cannot replicate. Lustre finish gives a subtle sheen.
All colour-calibrated against the studio master file.
Prints larger than A3 (or imperial equivalent) ship rolled in a hard recyclable tube; smaller prints ship flat. Frames are not included.

Can I prove authenticity of originals and reproductions?
Every authorised reproduction ships with embedded Certificate of Authenticity. The reproduction and proof of origin are inseparable. Piktur implements Linked Open Usable Data. Certificate includes:
- Artist, title, year, materials, original dimensions
- Edition number (e.g.
2/5for a limited edition,#3for an open edition) - A forgery-resistant token signed with HMAC against a server-side secret
- A QR code linking to the copy’s canonical URI, e.g.
https://{config.app.hostname}/object/untitled-01/print/{token}. Resolves to a Linked.artHumanMadeObjectreferencing the parent work, edition set and provenance entry (JSON-LD via content negotiation, HTML in browser).
To verify, scan the QR or visit the canonical URI; the token is checked against the studio’s registrar. To look up a copy without the QR, visit /verify/.
Reproductions without an embedded footer are not authorised by the studio.
Do original works come with a Certificate of Authenticity?
Every original work ships with Certificate of Authenticity issued by the studio. Piktur implements Linked Open Usable Data. Certificate includes:
- Title, year, medium and substrate (e.g. oil on linen)
- Dimensions (metric)
- A canonical record URI identifying the work in the studio catalogue, e.g. /object/untitled-01. Resolves to a Linked.art
HumanMadeObject(JSON-LD via content negotiation, HTML in browser). - Date of issue
To verify, visit the work’s canonical URI directly, scan the QR on the certificate, or look up by title at /verify/.
Keep the certificate stored with the work. It is the primary record of provenance for resale, insurance and museum-loan purposes — a serious buyer or registrar will ask for it.
If a certificate is lost, contact the studio at /links/ with the work’s title and any purchase reference; a replacement can be reissued against the studio’s ledger.
Who owns copyright? Does purchase of originals or reproductions transfer rights?
The artist retains copyright. Copyright is not transferred after purchase.
| You purchased | You own | You can | You cannot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original work | The physical work | Display privately or publicly, resell | Reproduce without attribution, photograph for commercial use, license images, resell derivatives |
| Reproduction | A licensed copy | Display privately or publicly, resell | Reproduce without attribution, photograph for commercial use, license images |
This aligns with standard practice under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) in Australia and equivalent law in most jurisdictions: ownership of the physical work and ownership of copyright are separate rights. Only the copyright holder can authorise reproduction.
For commercial licensing, exhibition reproduction, editorial use or derivative works, contact the studio first via /links/ — reasonable requests considered.
Do you teach? Can you teach me?
Yes — an online course on historical oil-painting technique is available at course.kulchu.red.
The course is a bridge to historical studio practice, with particular emphasis on 17th Century tonal painting techniques and materials. Lessons are practical and suited to painters of all abilities though some prior painting experience is expected and students should be able to distinguish Michelangelo from Caravaggio.
- Introduction to painting materials
- pigments,
- binders,
- brushes,
- supports,
- grounds
- Safe handling of materials
- Preparation of painting supports
- Color theory
- Paint making and palette organization
- Layered painting techniques demonstrated in the work of Flemish (Memling), Venetian (Titian), Florentine (Raphael) and Dutch (Rembrandt) masters. Including underpainting (with imprimatura, tonal grisaille), heightening with opaque tints and glazing for local and tonal color.
Lessons are sequential — each lesson builds toward a future outcome. Lesson content is written and accompanied with illustrations and audio recordings. All lessons accompanied with exercise(s). You may request feedback on your work.
